The journey of a precious gem
From the Ground
Sapphires are sourced from both our underground hand mine and small-scale heavy machinery mine in Rubyvale, both methods a labor-intensive process requiring constant effort.
In underground mining, we contend with extreme heat and physically demanding conditions. Using jackhammers, picks, and shovels, we extract sapphire-rich wash from beneath the surface, which is then brought up for treatment. This restricted mining method involves immense manual effort for what can sometimes yield only a handful of sapphires—or none at all.
On our machinery claim, the process is mechanized. We use excavators, loaders, and a mechanical wash plant to handle larger volumes of dirt and wash. Despite the increased tonnage moved, sapphire recovery is never guaranteed. There are many days of dedicated work maintaining the plant and processing material, and even then, results can be minimal.
Extracting sapphires is a challenging and time-consuming endeavor, reflecting the true value of these precious stones.
To the Studio
The difficulties involved in producing rough sapphire and the costs incurred, is what led us to increasing our skill and knowledge base to increase the value of our stone.
This led us to building our own studio where we now have the capabilities to walk in that door with a rough sapphire straight from our pulsator, facet it, set that stone, and then walk back out the door with a finished piece in hand.

The Beauty of the Sapphire
Sapphires are renowned for their captivating colors, extending far beyond the traditional blue. From vibrant yellows to deep greens and even rare pinks, the diverse palette of sapphires is a result of unique trace elements that shape their stunning appearances.
Though there are many colours all over the world in which sapphires can be, our palette consists of mainly earthy greens and bright yellows, with the less common vibrant blue. We often discover unique ‘parti’ sapphires with a particular blend of any of these beautiful tones, a perfect representation of the land in which these stunning stones were formed.
